Cannes (pte018/18.02.2003/12:10) - The 3GSM Congress http://www.3gsmworldcongress.com/congress has opened its doors in Cannes. The motto of this year's five-day event, which continues until Friday 21 February, is "fresh thinking".
Both the congress and concurrent trade fair are designed to offer new solutions and inspiration for innovations in the mobile telecommunications sector. According to organisers IBC, over 28,000 visitors have registered.
Participants at the congress come from 154 countries. Early estimates by IBC predicted that about 560 companies would be exhibiting at the fair, which is being held on grounds with 25,000 square metres of space for the first time. Last year only 546 exhibitors took part.
Ian Hemming, managing director of IBC, said: "The large amount of interest shows us that the industry considers the event to be highly important for creating networks, learning and most importantly doing business."
