Serbian TV takes video piracy to new level
Tolkien classic shown just after film premiere

Belgrade (pte024/14.02.2003/12:22) - A Serbian TV station has taken the concept of pirated movies a stage further by beaming viewers a stolen version of the Blockbuster 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' illegally video-taped in a local cinema.

Angry Lord of the Rings fans who were waiting to see the TV version and who clicked on to find the poor quality pirate version say their enjoyment of the classic has been ruined, as reported by Serbia's online radio and televison news network http://www.rts.co.yu/.

TV channel Enigma showed the pirated copy of the JRR Tolkien classic just weeks after its European premier.

Ivan Solic, 21, said: "I have been waiting for ages to see this film and then it turns up on telly. I was going to take my girlfriend to see it but she can't be bothered going now."

The TV channel is likely to face legal action from the Association of Film Distributors of Yugoslavia and Yugoslav anti-pirate association, as announced by Media Center Belgrade http://www.yumediacenter.com/english/.
