Bonn (pte022/03.02.2003/12:38) - Not long after Germany's largest telecommunications group Deutsche Telekom (DT) http://www.telekom.de/ confirmed it was planning to sell its directories business, a potential buyer has come forth.
The many independent publishers who currently produce DT's yellow pages have expressed a strong interest in joining together to purchase the DT yellow pages business, DeTeMedien http://www.detemedien.de/, as a consortium.
The consortium of publishers would consist of100 independent companies, each of which has a contractual agreement with DT. In joining together, they hold a significant advantage over other parties competing for the purchase, as any rivals would have to negotiate with each of the 100 publishing houses.
In the current agreement between DeTeMedien and its publishers, DeTeMedien controls the content and must pass on any relevant information to each publisher.
According to the Financial Times, the sale of DeTeMedien could fetch up to 1 billion euros. The measure is part of Deutsche Telekom's plan to reduce its pile of debt.
