Vienna (pte049/21.01.2003/16:52) - Lower Austria is to launch an advertising campaign on Wednesday to attract German companies to the province. Lower Austrian People's Party (VP) Governor Erwin Proell has said that he wants the province to draw the maximum benefit from the looming EU enlargement, which will see Lower Austria shift from the periphery to the centre of Europe.
Proell stressed that EU enlargement would mean companies that settle in Lower Austria would have access to a marke of 10 million people within a 300 km area. VP Economics Councillor Ernst Gabmann is starting a tour of Germany, designed to attract in particular those German companies that are discontented with the conditions under the coalition between the Social Democrats and the Greens, which is widely perceived as being unfavourable to business. Two hundred businessmen are expected to attend the launch of the campaign in Frankfurt on Wednesday. There are already 650 companies in Lower Austria.
