NEDINE showcased to media representatives from South East Europe
European news distribution network is open for further partners from the region

Vienna, Austria (pte003/07.05.2006/12:51) - The independent association "NEDINE" (European News Distribution Network), founded in fall 2005, was showcased to about eighty media and business representatives from Austria, East- and South East Europe on last Sunday in Vienna. In course of a river cruise on the ship MS Schlögen, editors in chief and leading media agents were able to get a hand on experience with the system. NEDINE was initiated in 2004 by the news agencies pressetext.europe (regions GE/AT/CH), CIA (CZ) and SITA (SK), in order to intensify the exchange of news between East- and Western Europe.

Main objective of the NEDINE association is to intensify the cooperation among non-governmental and independent news agencies. The network emerged from a project, initiated and funded within the eContent programme of the European Commission. The members of the board, Mr. Pavol Mudry, General Director of the Slovak News agency SITA, his Czech colleague Mrs. Hana Pavlistová from CIA, and Wilfried Seywald, pressetext.austria (pte) presented the newly founded organisation. Afterwards representatives of the Vienna University of Technology explained details of the internetbased system. http://www.nedine.org

NEDINE, the platform for international news exchange was presented to representatives of private and independent news agencies of the South East European countries for the first time in June 2005. It was seen there that agencies from the Balkan are interested in a more intense cooperation with Central and Western European agencies. The next prove of value for NEDINE was during the Media days in Munich by end of October 2005. Further progress and dialogue shall be organized in course of the newly founded NEDINE Association, which is open for new members - news, press and image agencies in Europe.

About NEDINE

NEDINE was founded in April 2004. Project partners from six different European nations dedicated themselves to the realisation of an international system of news distribution. The project is being led by pressetext.austria in cooperation with the department for Distributed Systems at the Vienna University of Technology. NEDINE' s aim is to offer readers an exactly profiled, personal portfolio made up of news and paid press releases from all over Europe. As well, an affordable and attractive solution for those sending press information across borders should also be made possible.

For technical implementation, modern technology and standards will be used, as well as methods of artificial intelligence. In order to make these standards possible, developers from the news agencies are working with experts from the Technical University Vienna (Department of Distributed Systems) http://www.infosys.tuwien.ac.at, as well as artificial intelligence experts (University of Technology, Madrid) http://www.fi.upm.es.
