Laptops outsell desktops in US
Mobile computing becomes more popular in day-to-day life

San Diego (pte027/06.06.2005/12:30) - In recent research done by a San Diego research firm, Current Analysis http://currentanalysis.com , more people are investing in laptops rather than desktop computers.

Current Analysis tracked sales from a cross-section of electronics retailers over a calendar month. Fifty-three per cent of sales were from notebooks, an increase of 7 per cent from the previous month.

United States laptop prices have dropped - 17 per cent during last year - and quality has improved, which may be an influential factor for the increased sales.

"Just a few years ago," Sam Bhavnani, senior analyst for Current Analysis said, "the performance of notebooks was nowhere near where it is today,"

Those using computers increasingly make use of wireless connections, need longer-lasting batteries and CD burners, which are all included in the most modern of laptops.

"There used to be a time when people expected a reply to an E-Mail within a couple of days. Now they expect a response within 24 hours. People want to stay connected wherever they are," said Bhavnani.

Despite increased laptop sales, desktop computers will not become obsolete, Bhavnani said. Not any time soon, at least.
