Seattle (pte025/02.06.2005/12:15) - Microsoft Corporation http://www.microsoft.com has announced that it is planning to integrate the XML data format, which is increasingly used by businesses, into the next version of its Office programme.
The extensible markup language - XML - allows transferral between different programmes, computers and organisations. The new XML capabilities will mainly benefit companies and corporate workers who need to tap into a variety of different databases, said Betsy Frost, a senior marketing director in the Microsoft business group that includes Office.
In a press release Microsoft said that the Office upgrade ('Office 12') will contain a new default XML file for the Word, Excel and Powerpoint programmes.
Office 12 will make it easier for users to "focus, prioritize and apply their expertise, visualize and understand key data, and reduce the amount of time they spend dealing with the complexity of an information-rich environment," said chairman and owner Bill Gates last month.
Microsoft's current Office is available for between $150 and $400, depending upon the edition.
