San Jose (pte037/01.06.2005/14:05) - Software solutions developer Adobe http://www.adobe.com sees a bright future with video and mobile imaging.
The company's recent attempt to acquire rival company Macromedia of San Francisco, which is worth US$3.4 million in stocks, is meant to give the company a semblance of Microsoft dominance in the production area. The deal is expected to go through in autumn.
Adobe hopes to produce, edit and display digital documents and video using a variety of devices, including mobile phones and computers by using Macromedia's Flash technology.
The company, whose products include Photoshop and Acrobat, is growing, with a 15 per cent turnover growth predicted for this year. By adding Macromedia's video technology Adobe hopes to exploit the new digital era.
"I believe mobility will be one of the key trends," said Adobe President and Chief Operating Officer Shantanu Narayen. "In China and India, you'll have a whole generation of people who will access the Internet without ever owning a PC."
John Warnock and Charles Geschke founded Adobe in 1982. They are still the company's chairmen. Their first product was Postscript, which enabled the replication of a computer interface on a printer. The early 1990s saw the launch of the PDF - Portable Document Format.
