Oxford, UK (pte020/12.05.2005/11:00) - In a partnership between television mast operator NTL Broadcast http://www.ntl.com and O2, the new Nokia 7710 http://www.nokia.com will facilitate access to 16 TV channels such as Sky News, CNN, Cartoon Network and Discovery. The Nokia handsets will be fitted with digital receivers.
Mike Short, vice president of research and development at O2 said, "We have been guided [in the choice of channels for the trial] by extensive research we did by last year about what people wanted to watch on mobile phones. They particularly wanted content of short duration, between 10 and 20 minutes, which lends itself to news, sport and cartoons."
Other mobile services, such as internet access that offers email and gaming will available to customers taking part in the trial.
Customers taking part in the trial will also have access to other mobile services, including telephony and internet access, offering email and gaming.
"This trial will give a useful insight into how the new technology performs," said Terry Howard, head of media business development at NTL Broadcast. "We intend to use that information to inform the broadcasters, mobile operators and Ofcom about the consumer appeal of the service."
