Ericsson to develop high-speed mobile phone networks in China
May be done in partnership or by the company itself

Stockholm (pte055/10.05.2005/17:16) - Ericsson http://www.ericsson.com has announced that it will develop technology for TD-SCDMA high speed mobile phones in China, which allows the transmitting of pictures and email via mobile phone.

Ericsson will need to develop support for TD-SCDMA standards, as it currently has no technology for it. According to Chief Technology Officer, Hakan Eriksson, the development will be done either by Ericsson itself or in conjunction with other a partner. "We will be involved in one way or another, either through partnerships or by developing our own equipment," he said.

One anonymous analyst said that finding a partner may be difficult. "I am sure Ericsson will make the right tactical move, but there is no Chinese firm left to create a partnership with and it will be interesting to see if they are able to push someone else out," he said.
