Helsinki (pte027/15.03.2005/12:00) - Finnish telecoms operator Elisa http://www.elisa.fi has developed two interactive services for mobile TV. As the company reports in a press release on its website, IndicaTV and SnadiTV enable companies, organisations and private individuals to provide content to mobile TV channels. Interactivity is enhanced by the fact that the mobile TV device carries both the receiver and the return channel. The programmes may be followed on the Nokia 7710 smartphone equipped with special accessory to receive mobile TV broadcasts.

According to Elisa, the IndicaTV service enables organisations and companies to send their own broadcast contents by a mobile TV. The videos could relate, for example, to a company's operations or to a specific hobby. During broadcast, the viewers can be offered ringing tones or wallpapers, the company said. SnadiTV is a multimedia message service for the residents and visitors of Helsinki. As the company reports, the service operates on the same logic as the SMS chats on TV, but in addition to text a picture can also be taken on a camera phone in the message. The messages, inserted on a map, can be viewed on a mobile TV almost real-time from 9am to 6pm on weekdays. Message sent at other times will be published on the next working day after 9am, Elisa said.
According to Elisa, the mobile TV pilot was launched in Helsinki on 8 March and will continue for three months. 250 of the company's mobile phone customers are participating in the project. During the pilot, the customers can follow digital TV broadcasts on the Nokia 7710 smartphone inside Ring Road I.
