Toronto back on SARS list
No general travel advisory for Canada

Geneva (pte038/27.05.2003/15:26) - The World Health Organization (WHO) http://www.who.int has put Toronto back on the list of cities or regions where the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) epidemic is not yet under control.

Canadian health minister Paul Gully explained that the decision was made based on eight confirmed and over 30 suspected new cases of the disease in the Canadian metropolis. There is, however, no general travel advisory for Canada.

Toronto was removed from the list just two weeks ago and seven days ago the Who announced that the disease was no longer spreading in Canada. However at the end of last week local authorities reported several suspected new cases of the potentially deadly lung disease in hospitals.

As a precautionary measure, over 800 people have been asked to voluntarily remain under quarantine in their homes, reports Canadian daily Toronto Star http://www.torontostar.ca . A speaker of the health ministry has said that the danger of SARS spreading throughout the population of Toronto is "minimal". (pte-special SARS)
