Bochum launches public WLAN
First eight hotspots in inner city

Bochum (pte035/21.05.2003/15:46) - In two days, one of the largest free WLAN networks in Germany will be launched in Bochum. The city has set up a public network in cooperation with local phone company TMR http://www.tmr.de and Intel http://www.intel.de , as reported by Intel.

The network is located in a well-frequented district of the city with many bars and cafes, known as the "Bermuda Triangle". In the initial phase, eight access points will be installed with a transfer standard of 802.11b. According to Intel, the project will then be expanded to include the entire city and the number of hotspots will grow to 50 by the end of the year.
