Company plans to save on employee costs

Schaumburg (pte022/17.04.2003/12:57) - The US mobile phone manufacturer Motorola http://www.motorola.com is planning cuts in the employment sector, despite its healthy revenue. The company has resolved to lower the number of employees to 90,000 by the end of the year. Motorola currently employs 94,000, of which 3000 will be fired.

In 2003 and the following year the enterprise is planning to save costs to the amount of US$3 billion. In the remaining quarter turnover is expected to decrease, then rise in the second half of the year.

In the last few years Motorola has discharged 60,000 of its employees and, due to restructuring in 2001 and 2002, saved 4 million dollars. In a conference call COO Mike Zafirovski said that principally, the company doesn't expect an improvement in worldwide economy structures. The predicted revenue growth in the second half of the year is expected to only effect the mobile phone, semiconductor and IT areas.
