House-wife-swap on TV
But no spouse-switching on RTL's reality TV

Munich (pte040/16.04.2003/15:44) - A German television network has come up with a new idea about how to improve its flagging ratings: a new reality-TV series, which pits fussy housewives against each other - in eachother's homes.

Commercial broadcaster RTL Television http://www.rtl.de said the show will be modelled on the BBC's "Changing Rooms" show in which neighbours redecorate eachother's homes.

The RTL show, has the working title, "Der Hausfrauentausch" - House-wives' Swap - and will allow housewives to switch homes for two weeks. The women are supposed to take over the household chores and responsibilities of the other's families.

The wives will also have to put up with the other's husbands - although not in the boudoir. Participants will have to sign a pledge that promises no romantic entanglements during filming.

"During the first week, the hausfrau has to abide by the rules of her guest home, no matter how odd they may seem to her," an RTL programming spokeswoman said. "But in the second week, she will be allowed to change all the rules and run the household as she sees fit - and the guest family has to obey her."

Production is already underway in Munich, where two families have already agreed to take part. The show will air in autumn.
