Dispute over Austria's leading paper settled
German and Austrian owners will run Kronen Zeitung together

Vienna (pte058/28.01.2003/12:40) - A bitter row over the future leadership of Austria's biggest newspaper, the Kronen Zeitung http://www.krone.at, has been settled after the two joint owners agreed that their candidates would run the paper together. The German group Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) http://www.waz.de has appointed Michael Kuhn as Managing Editor-in-Chief. He will run the paper alongside Christoph Dichand, the son of the newspaper's Austrian publisher, 82-year-old Hans Dichand. Christoph Dichand will succeed his father as Editor-in-Chief. The decision should put to rest a wrangle between Hans Dichand and WAZ, which saw threats of legal action over the issue of who should take over the paper. Sixty-five-year-old Kuhn is the paper's current deputy Editor-in-Chief and was the head of the sports department. A WAZ spokesman praised Kuhn, saying: "He is a well-known personality in Austria, who not only has experience in journalism but who will also be a integrative figure and who will stand for an independent Kronen Zeitung."
