Optimistic about Easter tourism
Hotels in Upper-Austria set to reach record number of stays over Easter

Vienna (pte020/28.03.2013/15:30) - Hotels in Upper-Austrian winter resorts, cities and spa towns could reach record number of overnight stays over the Easter holiday.

March and April each account for about 17 percent of the total number of overnight stays and are two of the strongest months in the six-month long winter tourism season.

There was a record total of 2.62 million overnight stays in the winter season 2012 in Upper-Austria.

With 1.7 million overnight stays between November and February this season, the region is only seeing a slight fall of 0.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

Professionals in the tourism industry aren't unduly worried but say that considering how close the region is to bettering the current record, it would be nice to see a positive increase in the numbers.

The three main winter tourism branches in Upper Austria (winter sport, spa and city tourism) have said that considering the current atmosphere and bookings, it could still be possible to see that plus sign appear during the Easter holidays.

The good snow conditions are still attracting people to the slopes and cross-country paths. The holiday region Pyhrn-Priel expects to finish the season with one to three percent more overnight stays compared to last year.

The Bad-Schallerbach, Bad Hall and Bad Ischl spa resorts for example also said they were well underway for a record number of overnight stays. The spa resort of Geinberg is expecting a 10 percent increase on last year.

Towns and cities in Upper-Austria - including the capital, Linz - are also optimistic and expect the variable weather to attract tourists to museums, art expositions, theatres, music events and encourage them to go on a shopping spree.
