Kelag subsidiary to start operating in Burgenland in 2013
Carinthia's biggest energy provider Kelag will be operating in Burgenland.

Vienna (pte024/13.03.2013/16:29) - Carinthia's biggest energy provider Kelag will be operating in Burgenland in the east of Austria by the end of 2013 through its subsidiary Kelag-Wärme.

Kelag-Wärme will be building a 12-kilometre long district heating network in Bad Sauerbrunn and Neudörfl in the Mattersburg region of Burgenland.

Kelag chairman Harald Kogler said 7,2 million Euros are being invested in the project which will ultimately deliver 24 million kilowatts of energy per hour for house and water heating. That is the equivalent usage of around 4,000 households.

Kogler said: "Kelag-Wärme is at 100 percent a branch of Kelag. We operate across all of Austria. We have developed this project because we have a partner on site, namely Fundermax."

Just like in Carinthia, the exhaust heat of the Fundermax factory in Neudörfl will be used for the Kelag heating supply.

The priority is to supply to major clients in the first place such as care home Neudörfl and the health centre in Bad Sauerbrunn. Managing director of the health centre Bernhard Schuster said: "On the one hand, we want to become a little bit more self-sufficient. But we also want to be able to have an influence on the costs and be respectful of the environment."
